Summer Camp Belayer

Summary: Are you looking for an active, high-energy summer job? As a Summer Camp Belayer, you are a vital part of the Bliss Summer Camp experience! Your primary responsibility is to provide a safe and encouraging environment for our young climbers. You will spend your shifts belaying campers, managing climbing equipment, and coaching kids as they reach new heights. This is a seasonal role perfect for students or teachers looking to stay involved in the climbing community over the summer break. Note: This position is “intermittent,” with some off-weeks between camp sessions.
Job Type: Part-Time
Expected Hours per Week: 20–30 hours per week during active camp weeks
Work Location: In person
Availability Requested: Weekdays
Must be able to pass a background check to work with minors. Previous belay experience is preferred, but we will train the right high-energy candidates!

Safety and Risk Management

  • Communicate with climbing staff to ensure that all visitors complete a waiver before entering the climbing area.
  • Provide consistent and attentive belay services during parties and scheduled events.
  • Monitor climbers to ensure adherence to safety protocols and gym policies.
  • Promptly address and report safety concerns to the supervisor as needed.

Customer Service and Member Support

  • Create a welcoming and positive atmosphere for participants, engaging with climbers and their families to enhance their experience.
  • Offer encouragement and basic climbing guidance to ensure participants feel supported.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with supervisors and other team members to ensure smooth event operations.
  • Communicate effectively with your team to address any participant or event needs during your shift.

Professional Training

  • Attend a belay class and pass gym test out prior to your position start date.

Other

  • Adhere to Climbing Associate position guidelines if approved by Operations Manager to work general gym shifts.
  • Perform all duties as assigned and adhere to other job responsibilities required by your supervisor.
